The scope of practice in Integrative Acupuncture Training Level 1 is only for musculoskeletal disorders, however included in the course will be methods of addressing systemic drivers of pain and movement dysfunction. More advanced levels such as IAT Level 2 and IAT Level 3 are required for a more extended scope of practice that includes application in women’s health, cardio thoracic, paediatric and neurology contexts.
This course combined with IAT Level 2 is similar in concept to the International Acupuncture Association of Physical Therapists’ (IAAPT) foundational courses in acupuncture.
For a number of reasons, Covid amongst them, we have changed the way we deliver IAT Level 1. The course is divided into two modules. Module 1 is conducted online and Module 2 is run as an intensive face to face program over three and a half days. These changes mean less travel, accommodation costs, and time off work. We hope that this will make the course more accessible to you.
It is now a prerequisite to have completed a recognised Dry Needling course prior to commencement of Module 2. If you have completed a Dry Needling Course more than 3 years ago we would highly recommend that you complete the APA ADNG Safety Course as a refresher as we will not be covering this as it will be assumed prior knowledge.
The 2025 IAT Level 1 Training will be presented by Kate Kennedy and Simone Selby and administered through the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). The training will run from May to November 2025 and Module 2 (the face to face component) will be held in Sydney, NSW over 3 days October 18-20 2024. Enrolments will open in January 2025 through the APA website. Course materials and the online component of the Level 1 Training will be available here on the ASAP website once you have enrolled. You must also be registered as an ASAP member and logged in to access the course materials.
