IAT Level 1

Integrative Acupuncture Training Level 1

The scope of practice in Integrative Acupuncture Training Level 1 is only for musculoskeletal disorders, however included in the course will be methods of addressing systemic drivers of pain and movement dysfunction. More advanced levels such as IAT Level 2 and IAT Level 3 are required for a more extended scope of practice that includes application in women’s health, cardio thoracic, paediatric and neurology contexts.

This course combined with IAT Level 2 is similar in concept to the International Acupuncture Association of Physical Therapists’ (IAAPT) foundational courses in acupuncture.

For a number of reasons, Covid amongst them, we have changed the way we deliver IAT Level 1. The course is divided into two modules. Module 1 is conducted online and Module 2 is run as an intensive face to face program over three and a half days. These changes mean less travel, accommodation costs, and time off work. We hope that this will make the course more accessible to you.

It is now a prerequisite to have completed a recognised Dry Needling course prior to commencement of Module 2. If you have completed a Dry Needling Course more than 3 years ago we would highly recommend that you complete the APA ADNG Safety Course as a refresher as we will not be covering this as it will be assumed prior knowledge.

The 2023 IAT Level 1 Training will be run through the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). The training will run from October 2023 to June 2024 and Module 2 (the face to face component) will be held in Adelaide, SA in late March 2024. Enrolments can be made now through the APA website. Course materials and the online component of the Level 1 Training will be available here on the ASAP website once you have enrolled. You must also be registered as an ASAP member and logged in to access the course materials.

Module 1

In Module 1 we will deliver all the Foundational Theoretical filters of IA via recorded lectures presented by Paula Raymond-Yacoub, the founder of IAT. In addition there will be online learning modules to consolidate your self directed learning. There is forum for participants to bounce ideas and ask questions from the teaching faculty.
