This course builds upon the foundational knowledge of IAT level 1. This course may certainly be taken as a fantastic refresher for people who may have trained with Paula Raymond-Yacoub and Integrative Acupuncture many years ago, when the course was only 3 modules. It may also be suitable for practitioners with previous overseas acupuncture training (minimum of 100 hours) who wish to incorporate the IA style into their practice. This course extends one’s clinical scope into fields beyond just musculoskeletal therapy.
The course is run over 2 modules. The first module comprises a number of lectures covering key topics:
- A review of Foundations
- Expansion of diagnostic skills via pulse and hara palpation
- The differentiation of the various constitutional types and syndromes
- The application of acupuncture in women’s health, neurology, paediatrics and geriatrics
- The application of moxibustion therapy, auricular therapy and basic dietetics
- The 8 extraordinary meridians and the 5 ‘spirits’ or psychological domains of the zang.
The second module comprises of 3 days of face to face training. This will be a very ‘hands on’ training, interspersed with case studies and discussion. This module will have a a team of 4 trainers, principally Paula Raymond-Yacoub, supported by experienced IA colleagues, Kate Kennedy, Trish Tan and Nick Edmond. It will be a wonderful opportunity to refine your skills in a very relaxed supportive environment. You will have an opportunity to receive as well as give treatments to each other, practice new techniques, observe treatments of real patients and discuss case studies.
We will conclude this course with a 2-3 hour zoom a month later, where each participant presents a reflective case study. Preferably, the case study should have factors beyond purely musculoskeletal issues. You can choose to use a slide presentation but this isn’t necessary if you don’t feel confident with the practicalities of doing this. We will have opportunity to discuss these studies. This zoom is part of the course and I would strongly encourage you to attend live. If for some unforeseen circumstances you are unable to attend then you must submit your case study to Paula for review and watch the recording of this session.
